Rockshox Tora 318

RockShox Tora – Question.?
I ordered a RockShox Tora SL Solo Air fork. Most forks I see by RockShox are labeled by 302, 318, or whatever. I understand the higher the number, the higher quality fork it is, even though everything is still in the “Tora” class. But – where does the SL fit in?
From Universal Cycles Website:
“Rock Shox Tora SL Series Forks (2010)
New cross country focused lightweight chassis
Shorter tapered-wall uppertubes compared to Tora Trail models
New lower leg and crown
Aluminum steerer
Steerer Length is 265mm
TurnKey lockout”
The numbered models are “Trail” models which are a little beefier, heavier, and slightly less travel. Unless you push the fork to extremes you are probably just fine with the XC version. The difference in price between many of the models also comes down to options such as remotes to be located on the handlebar.
BTW, I own an ’09 Tora Solo Air 100mm, essentially the same thing as the XC models with 100mm of travel (my particular bike isn’t designed for more than this due to its age). I’ve had zero trouble and it was a huge improvement over my old fork.
Hope this helps.
